Opening the Town’s Gates
At the start of the map, you’ll find yourself in the downtown area. However, not all areas are immediately accessible. You’ll need to gather enough resources to unlock critical paths. Here are the steps for unlocking the first few areas:
Activate the Town Square Power Switch: The power switch is located near the central fountain in downtown Liberty. You’ll need to fend off an initial wave of zombies while you power it up. Once activated, this switch opens several paths to other parts of the town, including the road leading to the carnival grounds.
Find the Keys: To open certain gates, you’ll need special keys that are hidden around the map. These keys aren’t just dropped by zombies—they’re often hidden behind locked doors or secret compartments in the environment. One of the first keys is located inside a fire truck parked near the town’s fire station. Keep your eyes peeled for locked cabinets and doors!
Use the Power Grid: One of the major objectives in Liberty Falls is restoring the power to the old grid. To do so, you’ll need to find four broken power units scattered throughout the map. They are located in specific areas, and you’ll need to solve environmental puzzles to retrieve them.
For example, one power unit is located in the carnival’s funhouse. You’ll need to survive a wave of zombies and then locate the puzzle in the darkened room. This is one of the more challenging early quests in the game, so make sure you have a solid team for support.
Exploring the Carnival Grounds
The carnival grounds are one of the most exciting locations in Liberty Falls. The area is riddled with hidden paths, tight corners, and plenty of zombies lurking around every corner. You’ll need to open the carnival gates by solving the key riddle, which requires finding three hidden symbols scattered throughout the map.
Each symbol corresponds to a specific carnival attraction. When you interact with the correct symbols, the gate opens, allowing you to progress deeper into the map. But beware—unlocking this area triggers a massive wave of zombies, so be prepared to defend your position.
Tip: Be Strategic With Your Resources
When unlocking new areas, it’s essential to be strategic about your resources. You’ll be spending a lot of points on unlocking doors and activating power switches, so don’t waste money on unnecessary items early in the game. Focus on gathering weapons, power-ups, and ammunition as you progress. Prioritize upgrading your weapons and unlocking key quest locations to set yourself up for success later in the game.
